Yap is designed to send Apple as little of your life as possible. Here's what touches a server and what doesn't.

What stays on your Mac

Every transcript Yap has ever produced for you lives at ~/Library/Application Support/Yap/library.json. Settings, hotkey, personal dictionary, profile picture, and recording counts live in UserDefaults and your login Keychain. None of it leaves your machine.

What is sent to a server, and when

When you hold the push-to-talk key, the audio you record is POSTed to speaking.computer's backend, which immediately forwards it to Groq's Whisper API for transcription. We don't store the audio or the resulting transcript. After transcription returns, the text optionally goes to Anthropic's Claude Haiku API for cleanup, again without being stored on our side.

Your email address is stored on our side so we can count your weekly word usage against your plan's limit. We never email you unless it's a sign-in code you requested or a direct reply to one you sent us.

What our third parties do

Audio is sent to Groq under their privacy policy; transcript text cleanup goes to Anthropic under theirs. Payments are handled by Stripe. Sign-in codes are delivered by Resend.

Deleting your data

Sign out from the app to discard the session token on this device. To have your server-side account (email + word counts) removed entirely, email [email protected].
